Frequency‐dependent evolution in a predator–prey system

چکیده
We present a discrete-time predator–prey model in which the prey population is assumed to evolve response toxicant. incorporate frequency-dependent selection into evolution, assuming that an individual's susceptibility predation depends on both trait it possesses and traits of others population. When symmetric, we show equation unable track changes fitness landscape, is, landscape may change while continues same value. As result, evolution produce unfit populations. Meanwhile, asymmetric frequency-dependence have destabilizing effect system, resulting closed invariant curve via Neimark–Sacker bifurcation. Recommendations for Resource Managers considering impact toxicant or other disturbance important consider duration whether any impacted species potential reduce Evolution resistance system dynamics number ways, such as enabling persistence at higher levels. However, here has destabilize dynamics, stable curves. Destabilization consequences persistence, periods low abundance increase possibility extinction.

Habitat heterogeneity and mammalian predatorprey interactions
1. In predator–prey theory, habitat heterogeneity can affect the relationship between kill rates and prey or predator density through its effect on the predator’s ability to search for, encounter, kill and consume its prey. Many studies of predator– prey interactions include the effect of spatial heterogeneity, but these are mostly based on species with restricted mobility or conducted in exper...
متن کاملLinked exploitation and interference competition drives the variable behavior of a classic predatorprey system
The potential connection between exploitation and interference competition was recognized long ago but has not been evaluated. We measured the levels of both forms of competition for the protist Didinium preying upon Paramecium. Across populations, exploitation intensity was tightly linked to interference intensity, and the form of this relationship follows from a simple model of interaction sp...

متن کاملVariation in predator foraging behaviour changes predatorprey spatiotemporal dynamics
1. Foraging underlies the ability of all animals to acquire essential resources and thus provides a critical link to understand population dynamics. A key issue is how variation in foraging behaviour affects foraging efficiency and predator–prey interactions in spatially heterogeneous environments. However, there is very little quantitative information available on this topic. 2. We evaluated t...
